Judy’s thoughts: I think singing on that stage in Spokane will be fantastic! It’ll be wonderful to see all of our hard work pay off as we sing and tell our stories to others from Region 13. We are a wonderful group of women and this is our opportunity to show off what Harmony of the Gorge is all about.
Eating/Shopping/Walking: Spokane in May is often lovely. Our hotels are nestled in the downtown area with restaurants, book stores, coffee shops, and the lovely Riverfront Park easily within walking distance.
Headquarters Hotel: (DoubleTree) This is where the judges stay during our weekend, and where most of the regional social events take place.
Traffic Pattern: is a list telling each performing group when and where they need to be in specific locations on their way to the stage. There is a sample at the bottom of this page.
Scores or Evaluations: Groups have a choice whether to perform for Evaluation (no scores) or for scores (either one gets feedback from the judges). Harmony of the Gorge is singing for Evaluation. The top scoring groups (quartets and choruses) can earn medals and the winning quartet and chorus earns the privilege to represent Region 13 at the next Sweet Adelines International Competition.
TRAFFIC PATTERN (tentative plan)
Traffic Pattern, Part 1: Leaving the DoubleTree
Once we are all ready (costumes, makeup, and great attitudes), then we will move from the DoubleTree using the 3rd floor exit to the promenade, and then walk the promenade (inside) to the escalators, stairs, and elevator to help us get down to the ground floor of the convention Center.
Traffic Pattern, Part 2: Ground Floor
This short video will give you a view of the spaces and distances that we are walking. Everything is indoors.
Traffic Pattern, Part 3: The ballroom
This short video shows you the size of the ballroom and tries to give you a feeling of how the stage, judges, and audience will be arranged in the room.
What will we do on stage – besides sing?
Please read through these 3 phases of what a chorus performance includes and watch these short videos of a chorus from back east. Notice that every singer is personally committed to being part of the chorus performance of their two songs.
Waiting to be announced and then getting to sing!
What to do between songs?
Oh, we’re almost done!
Region 13’s convention team will decide how early the chorus contest will start (it might be 1:00, like this sample – or even earlier).
After checking in, we will walk to our warmup room, and have about 10-minutes in a warmup room — to talk, sing a little, and BREATHE
Then we will walk to the backstage holding area (which this region calls the “ready room” on this chart)
and wait quietly until it’s time for us to go on stage
Prior to us getting on stage, our Convention Coordinator will welcome everyone to Region 13’s Chorus Contest
and then it’s our turn to SHINE and SMILE!
